What we can do for you…With you.

Do you need our services ?

Quebec youth centre are the grouping of public institutions which are mandated to provide specialized aid to children and their families who are experiencing serious difficulties. Quebec youth centre also provides support to young mothers having difficulties adapting to their new role.

We ensure the protection of our youth

Youth centres have the mandate to ensure the protection of young people under 18 years of age who are living in a situation which poses a serious risk to their physical safety or to their developpement. The risk can come from their immediate environment (physical violence, sexual abuse, serious neglect or abandonment by their parents), but it may also come as a result of their own behavior (running away, agressiveness, drug abuse, suicide attempts, etc.).

If you believe that a young person is at risk, we encourage you to notify the director of youth protection. Call our social urgence at 418 661-3700: it's strictly confidential. Our professionnals are available 24 hours a day to receive calls, and when necessary, will intervene immediately to ensure the protection of a child. The collaboration of the parents will be solicited throughout the process.

We motivate youths to assume their responsabilities

We also intervene with those youths who commit crimes - " young offenders ". Our actions are aimed to protect society as well as to aid the young person to make restitution and to behave in a manner better adapted to living in society.

We assist youth in re-establishing personal and social stability

The centre, through his rehatilitation programs, support young people who wish to regain control of their lives and to improve relations with their family and community.

We assist children and adults in matters of adoption

Quebec youth centre provide all the necessary services regarding adoption. The child who is orphaned or abandonned, or the child for whom the parents have voluntarily renounced parental rights, can count on our help in finding a new family. We also assist adults wishing to adopt a child in the preparation necessary to achieve a successful adoption.

We assist adopted children and natural parents wishing to make contact

We aid people adopted as children to obtain available information on their natural parents or to make contact with them. We provide similar services to those people who have given up a child for adoption. Reunions between parents and children require the consent of all the parties concerned.

We offer our expertise in certain divorce proceedings

At the request of a Superior Court judge, and with the consent of the parents, we evaluate family situations during or following divorce proceedings. Our evaluations aim to provide the court with recommendations regarding custody of minor children.

We act as mediators following family breakdown

We also provide mediation services to families with children in the process of divorcing.

We ensure the availability to youth of a range of residentiel ressources

Quebec youth centre participate in the recruitment, evaluation, and supervision of a network of foster homes and group homes that are adapted to the various needs of young people who cannot live in their own families.

We help young mothers in difficulty

Services are provided to young mothers having difficulty adapting to their parental role. These support services help them to assume their responsabilities toward their children more effectively and to re-establish personal, family and social stability.

A LINK IN A CHAIN

In each region, youth centres are part of a large network of institutions and agencies which intervene with children and their familles. Every day we are in close collaboration with our various partners : foster homes, group homes, CLSCs, hospitals, schools, community and self-help groups, the police and court services, local recreation and city agencies.

Collaborating in the search for solutions

When our professionals intervene in order to help a child and his parents, we start by exploring with them in-depth the nature of the problem and their family's situation.

They work along with the child and his parents to develop concrete means and a precise plan of action that will help to resolve the difficulties. They then provide the family necessary support needed to implement their plan and to restore the child's security and stability.

We at Quebec youth centre consider that it is the parent who is best able to provide for the security and stability of their child. For this reason, our professionals work primarily with the child's family milieu and in close collaboration with his parents.

When necessary, we can, however, provide a child services and resources outside of his family environment : a temporary placement in a foster home, for example, or in a youth rehabilitation centre. Regardless, the parents continue to be an integral part of the intervention process.
